Media Relations

What we do

Promote University of Missouri research, programs and achievements by:

  • Writing and disseminating press releases, media advisories, FECs (for expert comments)
  • Pitching  or disseminating press releases to the world’s media using appropriate methods (database of media contacts is updated daily)
  • Maintaining a website (  for access to press releases by media, alumni, legislators, community leaders and other members of the public.
  • Maintaining a Mizzou research Facebook page
  • Shooting video for use with press releases
  • Producing radio spots for airing on KFRU and other radio stations across the state
  • Producing podcasts from Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin’s radio interviews to disseminate and post to appropriate websites
  • Tweeting every national research release to more than 2,000 followers, including national reporters from major media outlets such as CNN and The New York Times

Assist university personnel when interviewed by media

  • Media training and/or assistance is provided for faculty and staff as requested

Assist reporters requesting information

  • Staff members serve as liaisons between reporters and faculty and staff so that reporters’ calls are answered in a timely way to meet deadlines

Share news placements obtained through the News Bureau

  • Share news placements with alumni, donors, legislators and other interested parties
  • Mizzou Newsmakers (a compilation of the most significant news placements) is published monthly
  • Weekly news placements and daily news clips are disseminated to the chancellor’s staff, posted on the News Bureau’s website and disseminated to interested parties.
